​Destiny is often seen as either a fixed sequence of events that is inevitable and unchangeable, or that individuals choose their own destiny by choosing different paths throughout their life. Options in life are sometimes disguised as illusions of choices. Every junction in life seems to present options to choose from. However, is there really an option? Are you really able to make your decision? Options and choices could be illusions. If you are destined to go a certain path, the choices and options made available are merely illusions. They could even exist to offer confusion, hope and sometimes despair. Life can be so irony.

 

When the mind cannot determine the appropriate choice to make, unsure of which turn to decide upon, people turn to a wide variety of tools for prediction. Both the Eastern and Western cultures offer numerous methods of prediction. Despite the differences in approach, all ways and methods attempt to see into the future, very much like looking the crystal ball. 

 

What are the very reasons to know about the destiny? At the very fundamental, it is to know which choices to make at present. Is it bad to know about the destiny? Does it help to know about your future? The answers are very subjective and span across both extremes of opinions. However, it could at least satisfy your nature of curiosity. There could be good outcome, in the way that you are motivated to realize your destiny. There could be the other extreme that the undesirable destiny would discourage any motivation to carry on activities to achieve the objective in life. To bring things into a better prespective, the destiny is the end result. We should not forget the process of going through life to reach the destination. While the end may be either delightful or dismay, we will still constantly need to fac the decision making process。

 

Human nature is self-conflicting to a large extent. When the prediction outcome is good, the individual is satisfied. On the contrary, if the prediction outcome is undesirable, one would choose not to believe in it. At times, even pushing blames that the source of prediction is not reliable. For some others, they will seek for correction actions to overcome the negative outcome. 

 

The law of the universe is fair. There are physical laws governing the way things work. These laws form the basis of modern science. For instance, for every force that acts in a direction, there is an equal amount of force acting in the opposite direction. Looking into the history of mankind and universe, it is easily to observe both joyous occassions and disasters. There is a balance of events, very much like the balance between Yin (阴) and Yang (阳) in the Chinese astrology.  Extending the concept, no individual can escape from his destiny, in the way that nobody can escape death. There will always be a mixture of good and bad elements in the universe and the individual. It is the law of the universe. To the religions in the world, it is God's will.

 

So, is it still worthwhile to know your destiny? Again, this is subjective. But it could still serve as a guide for the individual to steer the course of life. Despite the outcome of the ending, one must change his mindset to focus on the process of going through life. To put things in simple perspective, nobody can escape death. But it does not mean that we should live our lives passively. Everyday is still worth the battle. It is not the end that is important, it is the process of living through the end, the choices made in the process.
